Looking Back at 2016

Looking Back
Tim’s mom at the Punk Rope Games2016 was a rough year for me. I lost my mom (at left with my dad and my nephew’s fiancé, Rebecca) on December 15. Enough said. But mom got to see her first Punk Rope Games on October 1 and that’s a memory I’ll cherish forever. Here, in no particular order are Tim Haft Fitness’ 5 greatest hits from 2016.

1) The 8th Annual Punk Rope Games
The Games were held in Manhattan for the first time. 11 teams competed in 10 events with the Pitbulls winning the team title. The costumes were spectacular. Click here to check out Tom Egan’s amazing photos. Stay tuned for information on Punk Rope Games IX.

2) Punk Rope Benefit for myFace
On December 5, the day before my 56th birthday, we held a special benefit class at the 14th Street Y for myFace, a non-profit organization that helps kids and adults with craniofacial differences. The turnout was excellent and we raised $685.

3) Punk Rope Heads to the Southern United States
With Heather Wagner in tow as producer, Tim taught charity classes in Atlanta benefiting Lost-N-Found Youth and in New Orleans benefiting New Orleans Bulldog Rescue.

4) Hey Ho, Let’s Go!
On May 18, in collaboration with Sunnyside Shines, we offered a free, all-Ramones, Punk Rope class in a plaza right under the #7 train in Sunnyside, Queens in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Ramones first album: Ramones. After class we visited the Ramones exhibit at the Queens Museum as they had generously donated free passes.

5) MoshFit at Otto’s
Every two weeks I had the good fortune to share my favorite exercises fueled by my favorite punk rock songs at my favorite bar followed by my favorite happy hour. I can’t thank Otto’s Shrunken Head enough for all their support over the years.

I could probably go on forever with more highlights, but space is limited and I don’t want to try your patience. I apologize for leaving out Beastanetics and Stretch Happy as well as the City Challenge races and my 5K Skip to End Oppression, but I’ll be happy to fill you in on all that when we see each other in person.
