Tim started jumping rope in 1976 at the age of 16 and continues to jump almost daily. He especially enjoys skipping 5Ks. This is nothing earth shattering except that Tim has four herniated discs in his lumbar spine and an arthritic right knee with a torn meniscus. To cope with the injuries, Tim has learned how to stay light on his feet and how to use rope jumping as a safe, low-impact means for getting his cardio. Since founding Punk Rope in 2004 Tim has traveled across the US sharing his love for rope jumping and playful fitness. He holds certifications from the American Council on Exercise, Precision Nutrition, USA Track & Field, TRX, ISCA, USAFIT, and Resist-A-Ball, along with a BA in history and an MA in sociology. Fun facts: Tim is vegan, a rock ‘n’ roll DJ, and a mega college wrestling fan (Go Lehigh!).
Shana Brady, director of training
Shana joined the Punk Rope team as director of training in 2005. Since then she’s played a key role in designing all Punk Rope, Jump Rope 360, and Beastanetics workshops and classes. Shana has also worked as a personal trainer in corporate fitness centers, community centers, and private practice. She specializes in corrective exercise, especially with seniors. Shana holds a BS in exercise science and nutrition and is certified through the American Council on Exercise, American College of Sports Medicine, NASM, and Functional Movement Systems. Her personal fitness goal is to be fearless and keep jumping rope every day.
Heather Wagner, Jill of all trades
Heather is a lifelong athlete who never trusted group fitness classes until she met Beastanetics. She’s also a rock drummer who misspent much of her youth at sweaty punk shows jumping around like a crazy person so she’s also very much at home in a Punk Rope class. Heather is an energy medicine practitioner and is fascinated by the connections between the energetic and physical bodies. If you like the Punk Rope website, T-shirts, and graphics, you can thank Heather. If you don’t, blame Tim. In addition to her contributions as a graphic designer and web guru, Heather teaches Punk Rope, Jump Rope 360, and Beastanetics.
Tom Egan, photographer
Tom’s unique vision and ability to capture the essence of wacky people jumping rope in midair is a perfect fit for the colorful shenanigans of Punk Rope. He’s documented many Punk Rope classes, workshops, and events including the Punk Rope Games. Tom’s photography covers a range of subjects but one recurring theme is alternative culture in and around New York City. His work has been exhibited at more than 100 shows. Tom is a member of the Kostume Kult performance art group in New York City.
